I looked at a $6000 one before I got my car. It was at a sketchy but here pay here and rough shape. It was a big hell no.

I am really digging this red leather. I am sure though, that this car would turn out to be a complete mechanical nightmare for whoever gets it.

There are better FWD large luxury cars from the era

Why not? It's a Honda!!! Yeah I know it doesn't have VTEC, but it's still a nice big luxury car that will last hundreds of thousands of miles :)

What's a better one?

...an S8. Which is AWD, but still.

The Acura I'd the only FWD executive car from that era I can think of. Apart from the Seville STS. Which I'd take over the Acura.

You can use just the plate. Carfax only allows a few VIN searches but unlimited plate searches depending on the package you buy. A guy on another forum I'm on got me a carfax on my car using the plate. I didn't need it, but I was curious to see if any of the work I got done and getting rear ended showed on it. Plus I just liked having an updated record around.

Well, there is the larger Deville, I think the Continental was still around, and the Aurora was transitioning to FWD.

I'd rather have the RL over the Audi and Caddy.

The STS and Deville have transverse V8's which are difficult to work on. I think the same goes for the Lincoln. Leaving only the RL and A8. But Audi isn't known for their quality and reliability, especially not during ze Neu Malaise Era (1998-2005 German cars)

1. I've had no problems with mine.

2. I'll take interesting and unreliable over boring. That's just me. I drove an RL, and it's not even in the same league as an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus, any more than Acura's biggest model, whatever it's called, is today. Preferences are preferences, but that car was never really designed to compete with the A8, let alone the S8. It's a very nice car, but as I said, a very boring one. I will say this for it though: I think it is more than the sum of its parts.
